In this twentieth edition of the Rovereto
International Mozart Festival there are three theatrical events.
The opening performance, on 28th September at 9 p.m.
in the Rovereto Philharmonic Hall, is an outstanding occasion: "Don
Giovanni" – the theme running through the whole of the 2007
Festival – as seen and performed by the National Puppet Theatre
of Prague. A number of factors are intertwined in this production: firstly
the mutual love affair between the Genius of Salzburg and the Bohemian
Capital (which hosted the triumphal first night of the celebrated dramma
giocoso on 29th October 1787); secondly, but equally important, the strongly
satirical spirit of the opera combined with the intrinsic "lightness"
of the puppets.
This production by the National Puppet Theatre of Prague is in keeping
with a long and distinguished Bohemian tradition, which as early as the
mid-18th century was already becoming famous for the high quality of its
artistic achievements, with successful tours throughout Europe.
Tickets are available from 18th September at all the Casse Rurali banks
in the Trentino, or on the day of the performance, at the following prices:
full price 16 €, reduced price 12 €, students 5 €.
On Friday 5th October at 9 p.m., at the Rosmini Theatre in Rovereto, there
will be a performance of "Don Giovanni at the Crossroads",
a theatrical montage with music, and intervals with gastronomic delights,
freely adapted from Carlo Goldoni’s "La bottega del caffé"
and "La locandiera". This project, which is the result of
a revisitation of Goldoni’s two famous works, is not only an unusual
tribute to the great Venetian dramatist (who, incidentally, wrote his
own personal version of the legend, "Don Giovanni Tenorio"),
on the occasion of the tercentenary of his birth, but it is also, above
all, the outcome of a deliberate cultural policy by the Rovereto International
Mozart Festival over the last three years: that of actively involving
the younger generation in the sophisticated game of the enjoyment and
appreciation of classical music, by exploiting the enthusiasm, skills
and experience of a group of students, and placing them in a position
to make optimum use of their creativity, in other words starting from
organizational premises with the same level of artistic dignity as that
afforded to all the other professional artists involved in the Festival.
