The 2008 edition reaffirms the parallel
between tradition and innovation and features events belonging
to the classic repertoire as well as experiments and reworkings
in a more contemporary key.
The 21st edition will focus on the "popular aspects in Mozart",
i.e. the analysis and deeper understanding of how popular
heritage is used in Mozart's works.
To this purpose, the Festival will open with the Singspiel
"Der Schauspieldirektor", a parody of the opera "business"
in his day; while two of the high points will be the performances
by two prestigious orchestras: the London Chamber Orchestra,
with Pascal Rogè as a soloist, will be playing some classic
pieces in Rovereto on the first weekend of the Festival (25,
26, 27 September); and the Turin Philharmonic Orchestra will
perform on the day dedicated to the collaboration between
the Festival and the "2 Agosto" International Composing Competition
in Bologna. The latter will take place on the second weekend
(October 3, 4, 5) and will focus on innovation. The numerous
chamber concerts scheduled will also form part of this dialogue
which sets tradition opposite contemporaneity. These will
include the appointment with Maurizio Zanini and the prime
parti of the strings from the Teatro alla Scala in Milan,
which will take place in the Mozart palaces, rooms and churches
of Vallagarina: from a philological standpoint it is worth
mentioning the concert by the Bozen Baroque Ensemble, and,
in terms of new languages, the one by the percussionist Evelyn
Glennie.
