Born in Vienna, she grows up between Israel, France and Austria
with a jemenite mother and an austrian father, the painter Arik Brauer.
Education: Conservatory of Vienna (piano and singing) / Sorbonne-Paris
(musicology), doctorate for «vocals in jazz» / Summeracademy Salzburg,
Elisabeth Grümmer / mastercourses in Indian singing, München, Prof.
Javheri / CIM-Paris (jazz, singing and composition) /masterclass Simon
Baddi-Vienna (opera). In 1985 she and her husband, the pianist Elias Meiri,
establish an ensemble, with which they tour all over the world and record
CDs, emphasis being on jazz, ethno and chansons.
In 1986, she represents Austria in the Eurovision Song Contest. Since 1993
the Ensemble performs also with diverse concerts for children. In 1995 Timna
Brauer gives master classes for jazz improvisation at the Academy of Music
and Performing Arts in Vienna. Since 1998 she performs with the Ensemble
Modern, Frankfurt,the ?x201E;Threepennyopera?x201C;, directed by H.K.Gruber
(Musiktriennale Köln, Schleswig-Holstein Festival in Germany etc.)
2001 she plays the role of EVITA at the musical summerstage of Klagenfurt,
Austria
ELIAS MEIRI
Born in Israel in 1959, he begins to take piano lessons at the age of
five. Mostly due to his absolute pitch, he masters at early age the art of
improvisation. He visits the Talma-Yalin Conservatory in Tel-Aviv, and completes
his studies at the Berkelee College of Music in Boston. In New York he plays
with jazzstars like Dizzie Gillespie, Dave Liebmann and Steve Grossmann and
1988 he settles down in Europe. In addition to numerous performances with
Timna Brauer, he plays with his jazz trio, teaches piano and jazz-improvisation,
dedicates himself to composition, production of Cds and sound-technic. In
1985, he wins the second prize at the international jazz competitions in
Leverkusen, Germany and Hoilaart, Belgium. In 1987, he wins the first prize
at the international jazz competition for pianists in Kalicz, Poland.
ENSEMBLE
Together the couple, Timna Brauer & Elias Meiri and their Ensemble
win the international jazz competition at Paris-la Défense and
produce their own fantasy-show for Austrian television. In 1995, they put
on a big musical show - «Hava Nagila» for Ronacher Theatre
in Vienna, featuring 40 artists from Israel. 1998 they start a co-operation
with an Arabic and an Israeli choir for «Music for peace» with
tours in Europe, a TV-production and a CD.
